Nayeem on 7-day remand
Nayeem Ashraf, one of the friends of Shafat Ahmed, has been taken on seven-day remand for quizzing him in connection with the Banani rape case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate SM Masud Zaman, came up with the order after conducting a hearing in this connection on Thursday.

In the preliminary stages of questioning, held Nayeem Ashraf, has acknowledged his involvement in the Banani rape incident earlier today.

Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Monirul Islam, has confirmed in this regard while chatting with journalists at the DMP headquarters in the capital.

Earlier Nayeem Ashraf, one of the accused in a case filed over the rape of two private university girls in a Banani hotel, was held last night.

Acting on a tip off, a team of Police Headquarters arrested Nayeem from Louhaganj upazila of Munshiganj around 9:00pm, Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Krishnapada Roy told media in the night.

Now with this, a total of five accused have been arrested in connection with the rape incident.

On May 12, Dhaka's Banani rape accused Ahmed Shafat and Shadman Sakif have been placed on six and five-day remand respectively.

On May 11, a team of police arrested Ahmed Shafat (26) and Shadman Sakif (24) from Sylhet city’s Pathantula area over the rape case.

One of the rape victims filed a case with Banani Police Station on May 6 accusing five people.

Of the accused, Shafat Ahmed, and Nayeem Ashraf were sued for raping the two female university students while Shadman Sakif, Shafat's driver Billal, and his bodyguard for abetting in the crime.
