Bangladesh observes the World Egg Day on Friday with over 40 countries of the world simultaneously.
Marking the Egg Day, Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) organised an event for selling eggs at special discount of Taka 3 each egg.
The Egg selling event was scheduled between 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) at Khamarbari in Dhaka.
Thousands people from several corners of the capital city queued at KIB premises since early morning to get eggs on discounted price.
The witnesses said the organisers declared to sell around 20 thousands eggs on the occasion, but the number of buyers was more than that. The security persons had to struggle to manage the huge number of people.
Most of the people failed to get their desired eggs and started to shout, as a result, a brawl erupted among the egg-seekers.
However, the men in uniforms brought the situation under control before the scuffle turned to a mess clash.
Our reporter at 11:00am reported, thought the amount of egg ran out, people are still thronging for purchasing eggs. Agitated people blamed the organisers for the mismanagement.
Sabbir, a resident of nearby Tejkunipara, told media most of the people who came to purchase eggs are shopkeepers. Common people like me did not get eggs.
Middle-aged Abdur Rashid, a resident of Mogbazar said the organisers announced the discount price will be available from 10:00am to 1:00pm. But, I was told that all the eggs are sold out at 10:00am. What does it mean?
Meanwhile, the organisers said we said that we would sell only 20,000 eggs. What can we do if the number of purchasers topped the stock of eggs.
Earlier, BPICC President Mashiur Rahman said preparations were taken to observe the day across the country in a befitting manner. Marking the day, procession will be brought out and discussions will be staged at divisional cities under the arrangement of BPICC and DPS, he said.
In the district towns, DPS and different organization of professionals will observe the World Egg Day.
A colorful procession will be brought out from Krishibid Institution in the capital Dhaka at 9am which will return to the venue after marching different city streets.
A discussion held at 10:00am at the 3-D Seminar Hall at the institution.
