Here are Young Scot's top 4 tips to staying safe on social media.
1) Know who you're talking to
Only add people on Facebook that you've actually met, and remember that Twitter is an open forum, meaning that potentially millions of people could read the information you share.
2) Think before you post or share anything
Try and think about the people who could potentially see what you’ve posted. For example if someone who has authority over you is friends with you on Facebook, you may want to try and avoid posting an inappropriate image that may get you in trouble!
3) Avoid posting too much personal information
Use nicknames wherever you can and avoid posting details about your family, your email address and your phone number.
4) Don’t give out your username
Avoid sharing your Whatsapp, Snapchat or Skype to strangers on Twitter or Facebook, as you don’t know who could be adding you.
