We all have grown up believing certain health tips, without knowing valid reasons behind them. It may have been something that your mom or grandmom forced you to believe or a tip that you picked from health books.
However, if you have been blindly believing most of them, it's time you know the truth behind them - because something that you may have believed to be true for years may be simply untrue or admonished by authorized researches/studies.
YOU SHOULD DRINK 8 GLASSES OF WATER EVERYDAY: We are often told that we need to have eight glasses of water every day to remain healthy. The basic thing to understand is that every body is different and may have different requirements. Water intake depends entirely on weather conditions and physical activity. Therefore, the age-old theory of everyone drinking only 8 glasses of water is wrong.
AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY: Apples are healthy but when this popular adage was coined, that time apple was used to describe any round fruit. And it was not because of its 'unique' medicinal properties. So eat all seasonal fruits and keep your immune system strong.
YOU NEED MINIMUM 8 HOURS OF SLEEP: One shoe fits all theory is not correct when it comes to health. Numerous articles talk about sleeping for 8 hours every day for a healthy and happy life but it can be different for different bodies. There are people who sleep for as low as 4 hours and still feel fresh in the next morning, and others who may need 10 hours to rejuvenate their bodies. Therefore, figure out how much sleep you need.
YOU SHOULD POOP EVERY DAY: This generation-old theory is false. This is because if we poop everyday, it does not signify in any manner that we are healthy. Or if we poop once in three days, that does not make us sick. Pooping thrice a day to pooping thrice a week is considered healthy. Concern should be raised if poop is painful or comes with blood.
SANITIZERS WILL KEEP YOU EXTRA CLEAN: Many of us have the tendency to use sanitizer after washing our hands as we think it will kill extra germs. Fact alert: rubbing your hands with sanitizers cleans your hands as much as a soap bar and not more or less.
AUTISM IS CAUSED BY MMR VACCINE: It is because of this myth that measles came back. MMR is a vaccine used to treat and shield us from measles. A decade-old flawed study mentioned that the MMR vaccine is linked to autism. This is not true and should not be taken into consideration as many theories have proved no connection between autism and MMR vaccine.
REGULAR DETOX: Detoxifying your body is important but it should not be done with detox juice packets or shake packs which are found on supermarket shelves. The best way to detoxify is by sticking to homecooked food and avoiding smoking and alcohol.
