Facebook, the world’s largest social media network, in collaboration with the government will verify Bangladesh’s official Facebook pages of all the ministries, departments and directorates and offices in phases.
The move is part of `Sheikh Hasina Special Initiative’ that incorporates Digital Bangladesh as one of the 10 remarkable initiatives and ICT Division is the focal point of promoting Digital Bangladesh, reports the UNB.
Facebook has already started formally verifying the official page of different organisations of ICT Division through holding a workshop jointly organised by Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) of ICT Division and Facebook on Monday.
ICT Secretary Subir Kishore Chowdhury inaugurated the opening session of the workshop titled `Engaging Citizens through Facebook’ while State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak addressed the concluding session held at the BCC auditorium.
Officials concerned, including those of ICT focal points, innovation officers of the ministries, departments and directorates, took part in the function conducted by LICT component Team Leader Sami Ahmed.
Palak urged all to use world’s largest Facebook platform to deliver services to the doorstep of people.
‘There are allegations of fraudulent acts using the Facebook pages. The verification of the official Facebook page of the government will help check the misuse of the page as well as fraudulent acts,’ he said adding the users of Facebook are growing fast in Bangladesh and the number of users now stands at 2.75 lakh.
The ICT State Minister said the government has been trying its best to make 90 percent of its services by 2021 to ensure people’s easy access to it.
Describing the government’s various initiatives to bring all the unions under high-speed broadband network, Palak said the ICT Division has taken connectivity up to upazila level and the all unions will come under broadband connectivity by 2018.
LICT Project Management Specialist Sarker Abul Kalam Azad and Facebook’s Government and Politics Manager for India and South Asia Abhinav Nayar spoke at the function.
