BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to sit in a meeting with the members of her party’s highest policy making body - National Standing Committee - on Saturday night to finalise the party’s candidate for the by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral post.
The meeting will be held at the BNP chief’s Gulshan office at 8:30pm, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told UNB on Wednesday.
A party standing committee member, wishing anonymity, said the meeting has been convened mainly to finalise the party’s mayoral candidate for the DNCC by-polls.
He said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir may formally announce the name of the BNP candidate after the meeting.
Earlier on Monday night, the BNP chief had a meeting with the top leaders of her party-led 20-party alliance.
At the meeting, the alliance leaders assured Khaleda of extending their support to the BNP candidate she will nominate to contest the by-election.
