Two killed in Bagerhat road crash
Two workers have been killed and eight others were injured as a crane of Chinese contracting company turned turtle at Sharankhola of the district.

The incident took place at Lakurtola area on Rayenda-Tafalbarhi road of Sharankhola upazila on Wednesday noon.

The deceased were identified as Tuhin Mir, 38, son of Abdul Mannan Mir of Chal Rayenda village of the upazila, and Polash Haldar, 30, son of Pulin Haldar of Polash Tafalbari village.

The injured were known as Kabir Mir, 35, Dulal Haldar, 25, Md Helal, 18, Babul Haldar, 38, Khokon Gazi, 35, Riaz Zamader, 30, and Sajib, 34.

All the victims are workers of the company engaged in embankment dam project financed by the World Bank (WB).

The injured were taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital after giving them first aid at Sharankhola Hospital.

The speedy crane with 15 workers turned turtle while it took turn at Lakurtola bridge area, according to police and witnesses.

Dr Asim Kumar Somaddar, Sharankhola Upazila Health and Family Planning official, confirmed the death of two workers.

Of the injured, five were in critical state, he added.

Kabirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sharankhola Police Station, confirmed the news.
