Khaleda be given division: Court
A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, jailed for five years in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, be given first class division, according to her lawyers.

The special court of judge Akhteruzzaman issued the ordert after Khaleda Zia's lawyer had applied for the former prime minister to be given the privileges as per the jail code.

Khaleda's lawyer Zakir Hossain confirmed this today.

As per the jail code, a former prime minister or an opposition leader is entitled to division facilities immediately after being taken to the court, he said, adding that no court order is required to give the division.

Khaleda Zia landed in jail on Thursday after a makeshift court had sentenced her to five years in jail in a graft case filed during the military-controlled regime in 2008.

Her Bangladesh Nationalist Party termed the case and judgement politically motivated and has continued protest demonstration.

BNP leaders said they would file an appeal and bail prayer once they receive certified copy of the judgement.
