RUET teachers go on strike for action against students
A day into the withdrawal of a strike enforced by a section of Ruet students, teachers started boycotting classes today demanding punishment of those who confined them during a student protest from Saturday evening.

Teachers are not taking any class and examination since 10:00am.

Vice President of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) Teacher’s Association NHM Kamruzzaman came up with the decision following an emergency meeting on Sunday.

The teachers also demanded punishment of the students who assaulted them physically and on social media platforms.

Ruet authorities yesterday cancelled the "33 Credit System" in the face of student protest but declared an indefinite strike demanding punishment for the students who confined them for around 20 hours.

On Saturday, students staged a demonstration in front of the VC office confining VC Rafiqul Alam Beg, 15 teachers and deans of different faculties inside the office from 6:00pm Saturday to 1:00pm Sunday demanding the cancellation of the credit system.

Mentionable, a section of students of 2014-15 and 2015-16 sessions had been demonstrating since January 28 demanding cancellation of the “33 Credit System.”

According to Ruet sources, the authority introduced the “33 Credit System” in 2013, where a student has to get 33 out of 40 credits in examination. Upon failing to do so, he or she will not be allowed to move up to the next session and have to retake the whole year again.
